5 Reasons Why Coffee is Always a Good Idea

August 3, 2015

Warning: as an avid coffee enthusiast, I may be a tad biased.

Many people are quick to put down the effects coffee can have on your body, but most are not aware of the health benefits that come alongside its incredible taste and necessary energy to take on the day. Fun fact! Every year, the average American drinks enough coffee to fill up their bathtub! But here are the real facts: a few cups of coffee every day (not all at once!) is mentally and physically beneficial to your health in the long run because…

Diseases Stay Away.

After over 20,000 studies in recent years, the results prove that a person who drinks 3-5 cups of coffee a day are at a lower risk of a variety of devastating diseases than those who don’t drink coffee at all. These are a few that coffee helps to fight against…

  • Type 2 Diabetes risk is reduced by 50% + additional cups reduce the risk by 7%

  • Alzheimer’s/Dementia by 65%

  • Liver Cancer

  • Prostate Cancer

  • Gallstones

  • Cirrhosis

  • Parkinson’s

  • Stroke

So. Many. Nutrients.

Yep, vitamins and nutrients are packed into these beans especially antioxidants! A recent study by the American Chemical Society has proven that Americans get more of their antioxidants from coffee than any other dietary source. A few cups actually contain more antioxidants than an entire serving of fruits and vegetables combined. Other vitamins and nutrients such as Vitamin B2 and B5, Potassium, Niacin, and Magnesium are in there as well.

It Makes You Happier!

Have you ever seen anyone down in the dumps after a few cups of coffee? I haven’t. It evidently does improves energy levels as well as focus, reaction time, memory, and general cognitive function. A Harvard study even analyzed that people who drink coffee are less likely to experience depression or thoughts of suicide. These mood-lifting powers, according to researchers, are less attributed to the caffeine as you would expect but is actually in the antioxidants.

It’s a Natural Metabolism Booster and Fat-Burner.

This one’s all in the caffeine, it boosts your metabolic rate by 11% and burns fat at higher rate of 29%. You can find caffeine in most fat burning supplements but sadly also in sugary and artificially flavored soft drinks. Drinking a cup of coffee 30 minutes before a workout not only enhances physical performance but helps burn fat much faster.  So next time you’re reaching for that artificial pre-workout drink, instead go for a natural organic cup of Joe. (Not Joe Drake!)

It’s Very Low in Calories.

I’m not talking about your decadent Frappuccino or Trenta iced coffee with extra cream and 56 pumps of toffee nut. But a cup of black coffee contains less than 5 calories! Of course adding in the milk/cream and sugar may cancel out that slightly bitter taste you may not be used to, but it does stack up the calorie and fat content.

So there you have it folks, coffee is actually good for your health on so many levels so don’t ditch it completely… Just drink responsibly.
